Our sages teach: “If a person says, 'I will sin and Yom Kippur will atone,' Yom Kippur does not atone” (Yoma 85b). In this statement, they wish to underscore the fact that Yom Kippur is like a remedy for the sick and suffering soul. It can heal. -

If one receives Torah without possessing humility there is a chance that after receiving it he will forget that a great yoke rests upon him to exert himself on behalf of the Torah, to grow and develop in Torah. -
Concerning Yom Kippur
One who completes the Days of Awe as he should has certainly merited coming closer to the Almighty. And even if he was judged unfavorably above, this too is for the best, for it serves to rectify him and prepare him for life in the World to Come.
